Cardiff University Kazakhstan invites applications for Lecturer or Senior Lecturer roles (depending on experience) in Computer Science/Mathematics and Geology.

Available Subject Areas

We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates with expertise in the following areas:

Lecturers in Computer Science/Mathematics

To deliver on our BSc Computer Science and BSc Computer Science with Foundation Year degree programmes. We are particularly interested in applicants who might be able to teach across a broad selection of topics across mathematics, statistics and computer science.

The Foundation Year comprises the following modules:

  • Scientific Thinking, Mathematical Foundations, Data Science and Statistics Mathematical Modelling and Applications.

With the following modules in Year 1:

  • Fundamentals of Programming, Computer Systems, Fundamentals of Information Systems, Object Oriented Programming and Data Structures, Mathematics for Computer Science, Professional Practice for Computer Science

Lecturers in Geology

To deliver on our BSc Exploration Geology and BSc Exploration Geology with Foundation Year degree programmes.

The Foundation Year comprises the following modules:

  • Scientific Thinking, Mathematical Foundations, Data Science and Statistics, Exploring Planet Earth, with the associated with these posts.

With the following modules in Year 1:

  • World of Dynamic Environments, Earth Science Fieldwork, Earth Materials, Life and Earth History, GIS and Geological Maps

About the Role

This is a teaching-focused role, delivered in English and aligned with Cardiff University’s academic standards. You will play an active role in delivering an excellent student experience and supporting students academically and pastorally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality undergraduate teaching
  • Contributing to curriculum development and continuous enhancement
  • Provide academic guidance and pastoral support to students including personal tutoring
  • Participating in assessment and feedback processes
  • Inspire undergraduate and postgraduate students under the guidance of a mentor / module leader and develop skills in assessment methods and in providing constructive feedback to students.
  • Supervise the work of students including the supervision of Undergraduates

Scholarship

  • Support the development of a vibrant and inclusive academic community
  • Contribute to scholarship in the area of work through participation in conferences, seminars and other academic and professional forums to disseminate the results of individual scholarship
  • Engage in scholarly activity through journal articles and/or outputs which advance knowledge within the area of work
  • Carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking paper and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in committee work

Other

  • To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally
  • To undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance in the role of Lecturer
  • To mentor colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development
  • To participate in administration and activities to promote the University
  • Any other duties not included above, but consistent with the role.

Candidate Profile

Essential Criteria

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification (PhD or equivalent preferred)
  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate level in higher education
  • Fluency in English and Russian/Kazakh
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge and current advancements within academic subject area
  • Ability to design, deliver and continuously develop modules across the Schools teaching programmes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex and conceptual ideas clearly and confidently to others using high level skills and a range of media
  • The ability to provide appropriate pastoral support to students, appreciate the needs of individual students and their circumstances and to act as a personal tutor.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation and teamworking within work
  • Interest in international and transnational education
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse academic team

  • Relevant professional qualifications
  • Evidence of collaboration with industry
  • Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance the teaching and research activities of the University.
  • A willingness to contribute to academic administration

Terms and Key Dates

  • Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience
