Responsibilities:
  • Deal Sourcing & Evaluation: Identify and evaluate potential acquisition and investment targets in fintech, health-tech, edtech, insure-tech, and digital entertainment sectors, focusing on opportunities in VEON’s frontier/emerging markets. Stay abreast of industry trends in these domains to discover strategic growth opportunities.
  • Transaction Leadership: Drive end-to-end execution of M&A transactions, from initial assessment through due diligence, valuation, negotiations, and closing. Coordinate closely with internal team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment and smooth execution of deals.
  • Financial & Strategic Analysis: Perform detailed financial modeling, valuation analysis, market research, and business due diligence on targets to assess strategic fit and risks. Provide data-driven insights and rapid, well-founded judgments on market opportunities and potential transactions to inform decision-making.
  • Strategic Decision Support: Contribute to high-level strategic discussions and investment decision-making by VEON’s leadership. This includes analyzing how prospective deals align with VEON’s digital strategy and providing clear recommendations about which opportunities to pursue.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage and collaborate with senior leadership – including VEON Group executives and Operating Company CEOs – to ensure M&A initiatives align with corporate strategic objectives and local market needs. Maintain a regular dialogue with key internal stakeholders (finance, strategy, legal, etc.) for cross-functional buy-in.
  • Presentations & Approvals: Prepare and deliver clear, compelling investment proposals and presentations for the Board of Directors, executive committees, and other governance forums to obtain necessary approvals. Summarize complex analyses into persuasive narratives that articulate the deal rationale, synergies (if any), and expected value creation.
  • External Advisory Coordination: Work closely with external advisors (investment banks, financial consultants, legal counsel, technical/domain experts) to support valuation, due diligence, and deal structuring. Ensure thorough due diligence across all functional areas (finance, legal, tax, technical, etc.), rigorously assessing risks and opportunities of each deal.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams (Finance, Legal, Strategy, Operations) throughout the deal process. Facilitate knowledge sharing and coordinate inputs (e.g. regulatory considerations, financial forecasts, integration planning¹) so that all parts of the organization are prepared for the transaction’s execution and subsequent handover.
Requirements:
  • Industry Background: Leadership experience at a top-tier investment bank, private equity firm, Big Four (transactions advisory), or corporate development/M&A team is highly advantageous. A strong network in the technology and finance industry will be beneficial.
  • Sector Knowledge: Familiarity with the Telecom, Media & Technology (TMT) sector and digital services landscape is desired. Domain expertise in fintech, digital financial services, education technology, healthcare technology, insurance tech, or online entertainment – including understanding of key trends and business models in these areas – will enable effective evaluation of targets.
  • International Experience: An international mindset with experience operating in or advising on emerging/frontier markets is a plus. Understanding of regulatory, cultural, and business conditions in VEON’s markets will help in assessing opportunities and risks.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and project-manage complex initiatives. Capable of influencing stakeholders without direct authority in a matrix organization and building consensus at all levels. Excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach are essential (a “team player” mindset).
  • Drive & Organization: Proactive, self-motivated, and results-driven personality with a strong sense of ownership. Able to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines. Strong organizational and project management skills to keep deal processes on track and coordinate diverse teams.
  • Ethics & Integrity: Uncompromising integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards in dealing with confidential information and conducting negotiations. Trustworthy, with a demonstrated commitment to doing business with the highest ethical principles (aligning with VEON’s values of being truthful and transparent).
