Cardiff University, a member of the UK’s elite Russell Group of research-intensive universities, has opened its first international campus in Astana. The University offers undergraduate programmes in Business, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, and Earth Sciences.

We are seeking a highly professional, motivated, and approachable IT Specialist to support University staff and students with their day-to-day IT needs.

The post holder will provide technical support, maintenance, and advice across a wide range of IT technologies, including but not limited to:

  • Installation, updating, and support of software (Windows, macOS, Linux, mobile operating systems);

  • Mobile devices (Android and iOS smartphones and tablets);

  • IT infrastructure, including basic configuration of network equipment (switches, Wi-Fi access points, printers, IP telephony);

  • Audiovisual equipment (presentation and recording systems) in teaching and collaborative spaces (lecture theatres, seminar rooms, conference rooms, video conferencing);

  • University administrative and management systems;

  • Diagnosis and resolution of information security incidents (viruses, phishing, unauthorised access);

  • Specialist equipment used in teaching and/or research.

The role operates as a first-line IT support service, requiring a prompt response to any technical issues affecting academic or administrative activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support, maintenance, and consultation across a broad range of IT and media technologies.

  • Deliver training and guidance to staff and students on the use of University IT systems.

  • Support core corporate services, including Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Teams, SharePoint, and email systems.

  • Carry out routine operational tasks related to the maintenance and monitoring of University hardware and software.

  • Support colleagues by applying professional best practices, resolving most issues independently, and documenting incidents for analysis.

  • Respond to user requests, resolve low- and medium-complexity issues, and escalate complex problems when required.

  • Participate in diagnosing infrastructure-related issues in collaboration with colleagues and external vendors.

  • Install and maintain equipment in strict compliance with health and safety regulations and University standards.

  • Contribute to projects and perform tasks as directed by line management.

  • Continuously develop knowledge and skills in existing and emerging technologies.

  • Comply with University policies on health and safety, equality, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Undertake other duties commensurate with the level of the role, as required.

Essential Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Higher or secondary specialised education relevant to the role.

  • English language proficiency at IELTS 6.5 or above.

  • Demonstrable and substantial experience in the IT field.

  • Experience working in an IT service environment, with strong skills in supporting PCs, mobile devices, and AV technologies.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally to users with varying levels of IT knowledge.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.

  • User-focused approach with a commitment to high-quality IT service delivery.

  • Ability to work independently, plan tasks, and prioritise effectively.

  • Experience using monitoring, audit, and reporting tools.

  • Understanding of modern IT and AV technologies within an educational environment.

  • Proven contribution to effective incident and problem resolution.

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office 365.

Terms and Conditions

  • Full-time position; employment in accordance with the labour legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

  • One-year employment contract with the possibility of extension.
