Kazakhstan International School (KIS) Astana invites a highly qualified, progressive, and academically driven Teacher of Chemistry to join our team for Middle & High School (Grades 6–12) within the IB MYP and Diploma Programme (DP) frameworks.
We are seeking an expert who can transform complex chemical processes into engaging inquiries, foster critical thinking and practical laboratory skills in middle school, and lead an in-depth academic course preparing senior students for success in IB DP exams and entry into top global universities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning (Inquiry-Based Learning)
Plan and deliver high-quality Chemistry lessons for Grades 6–12 in alignment with IB MYP and DP standards, as well as the State Compulsory Educational Standard (GOSO) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Develop Unit Plans incorporating practical lab work, global contexts, and key concepts of natural sciences.
Apply Approaches to Learning (ATLs) to foster students' scientific analysis, experimental design, critical data interpretation, and academic writing skills.
Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse academic and language backgrounds.
2. Academic Leadership and Laboratory Practice
Provide rigorous preparation for High School students (Grades 10–12) in IB Chemistry (Standard Level / Higher Level) and final examinations.
Instruct students in scientific research methodology, laboratory safety protocols, and writing Internal Assessment (IA) lab reports.
Supervise student research projects and serve as an Extended Essay (EE) supervisor in Chemistry or related scientific disciplines within the DP.
3. Assessment, Monitoring, and Documentation
Apply a transparent criterion-based assessment system aligning IB standards (MYP/DP) with the requirements of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Provide regular, constructive feedback to students to enhance their academic outcomes.
Maintain electronic documentation, unit plans, and reporting on the Toddle platform, strictly adhering to safety protocols in the chemistry laboratory.
4. Contribution to the School Community
Promote science and foster an inquiry-driven culture among students while instilling International Mindedness.
Participate in organizing school science fairs, Olympiads, and STEM initiatives.
Engage actively with parents, contribute to the Sciences Department meetings, and support the school's international accreditation processes (IB, MSA).
Participate in broader school life (duties, leading science clubs/extracurricular activities within After-School Activities).
Candidate Profile
Education and Qualifications:
University degree in Education or a related field (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Natural Sciences Education — Bachelor’s / Master’s).
Holding a valid teaching qualification/category is preferred.
3–5+ years of teaching experience in Chemistry for Middle and High School levels.
Experience in IB schools (MYP/DP), NIS, RFMS, or other leading international/private schools is a strong advantage.
Key Competencies:
Comprehensive mastery of Chemistry, modern teaching methodologies, and practical skills in organizing laboratory experiments.
Understanding of IB methodology (inquiry-based learning, conceptual understanding, practical investigations) or readiness to actively acquire these skills.
Knowledge of adolescent psychology across Middle and High School stages.
High level of digital literacy and proficiency with modern EdTech tools (including interactive simulations and digital data loggers).
Language Requirements:
English at Upper-Intermediate / Advanced (B2/C1) level — strictly required. Excellent spoken and written fluency is essential, as the teacher must be capable of delivering lessons, explaining complex scientific concepts, and facilitating classroom discussions entirely in English. MYP/DP frameworks, Toddle curriculum planning, laboratory documentation, and communication with international staff and leadership are conducted exclusively in English.
Fluency in Kazakh and/or Russian is a strong plus for daily communication and interaction within the local community.
