Teacher of Mathematics (Grades 5–10)
Kazakhstan International School (KIS) Astana invites a highly qualified, progressive, and academically driven Teacher of Mathematics to join our team for Grades 5–10 within the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the State Compulsory Educational Standard (GOSO) of the Republic of Kazakhstan frameworks.
We are seeking an expert who can transform abstract mathematical concepts into engaging inquiry-based learning, foster logical and critical thinking, and build a strong academic foundation to prepare middle school students for future success in the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and final examinations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Learning (Inquiry-Based Learning)
Plan and deliver high-quality Mathematics lessons for Grades 5–10 in alignment with IB MYP standards and the State Compulsory Educational Standard (GOSO) of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Develop Unit Plans incorporating conceptual understanding, global contexts, and real-world mathematical applications.
Apply Approaches to Learning (ATLs) to foster students' mathematical analysis, problem-solving, logical reasoning, and modeling skills.
Differentiate instruction to support students with diverse academic and language backgrounds.
2. Academic Development and Preparation
Build deep, systemic student knowledge in algebra, geometry, and data analysis necessary for transitioning to high school studies (IB DP / Senior High School).
Instruct students in mathematical research methodologies, data interpretation, and structuring independent mathematical investigations (MYP Criterion D: Applying mathematics in real-life contexts).
Supervise student projects and research within the MYP framework (Personal Project / Service as Action).
3. Assessment, Monitoring, and Documentation
Apply a transparent criterion-based assessment system aligning IB MYP standards with the requirements of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Provide regular, constructive feedback to students and parents to enhance academic growth.
Maintain electronic documentation, unit plans, and reporting on the Toddle platform.
4. Contribution to the School Community
Promote mathematics, foster an inquiry-driven culture, and instill International Mindedness among students.
Organize and lead school math competitions, Science/Math weeks, logic tournaments, and STEM initiatives.
Engage actively with the Mathematics/Sciences Department, participate in staff meetings, and support the school’s international accreditation processes (IB, MSA).
Participate in broader school life (duties, leading math clubs/coaching within After-School Activities).
Candidate Profile
Education and Qualifications:
University degree in Education or a related field (Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education — Bachelor’s / Master’s).
Holding a valid teaching qualification/category is preferred.
3–5+ years of teaching experience in Mathematics for Middle and High School levels.
Experience in IB schools (MYP), NIS, RFMS, or other leading international/private schools is a strong advantage.
Key Competencies:
Comprehensive mastery of the school mathematics curriculum (algebra, geometry, probability, and statistics) and modern teaching methodologies.
Understanding of IB MYP methodology (inquiry-based learning, conceptual understanding, criterion-related assessment) or readiness to actively acquire these skills.
Knowledge of adolescent psychology across Middle School stages.
High level of digital literacy and proficiency with EdTech tools and mathematical software (GeoGebra, Desmos, interactive learning platforms).
Language Requirements:
English at Upper-Intermediate / Advanced (B2/C1) level — strictly required. Excellent spoken and written fluency is essential, as the teacher must be capable of delivering lessons, explaining complex mathematical concepts, and facilitating classroom discussions entirely in English. MYP frameworks, Toddle curriculum planning, and communication with international staff and leadership are conducted exclusively in English.
Fluency in Kazakh and/or Russian is a strong plus for daily communication and interaction within the local community.
