Senior Java Developer

About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a globally distributed team building and operating production backend services. The role is hands-on engineering with strong ownership expectations: design, build, ship, and support the services you work on.
Our team is fully distributed and runs asynchronously by default. We trust engineers to manage their time, swap shifts, flex their hours, and take time back when they have put in extra effort. In return we expect ownership: engineers who acknowledge incidents, follow through on commitments, and treat the services they build as their own.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and operate Java-based microservices running on AWS and EKS.

• Own services end to end, from design through deployment, monitoring, and incident response.

• Participate in a shared on-call rotation across the team.

• Collaborate closely with engineers across multiple time zones and partner teams.

• Contribute to architectural decisions and help raise the technical bar on the team.

What We Are Looking For

• Senior or Staff level backend experience building production services in Java.

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS and containerized workloads (EKS or equivalent).

• Experience designing and operating microservices at scale.

• Familiarity with DynamoDB, SQS, and observability tooling such as Splunk and DataDog.

• Comfort owning production systems, including being part of an on-call rotation.

• Strong written communication and the ability to work asynchronously across time zones.

• Ownership mindset: someone who moves problems forward rather than waiting to be assigned work.
