The Role
We are seeking motivated and experienced EAP Tutors to deliver high‑quality English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and Academic Skills teaching on the Foundation Year of our four‑year undergraduate programmes.
You will play a key role in preparing students for successful study in English‑medium degree programmes. You will employ engaging, student‑centred teaching approaches, support students’ academic literacy development, and ensure they meet the language requirements for progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and assess credit‑bearing modules within the Foundation Year programme
- EAP module (for students below IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent))
- Academic Skills module (for all foundation students)
- Deliver up to 22 student contact hours per week in line with the approved timetable and scheme of work
- Prepare lessons and teaching materials in accordance with module aims, syllabus, and assessments
- Develop and adapt supplementary materials to meet students’ academic language needs
- Maintain accurate teaching and administrative records, including attendance and lesson registers
- Mark formative and summative assessments in line with marking schemes and deadlines
- Provide timely, detailed written and verbal feedback to students
- Act as a personal tutor, mentoring students and monitoring academic progress
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a high-quality learning experience and share resources
- Participate in weekly online briefings, training sessions, and standardisation meetings
- Maintain professional communication via email and MS Teams
- Engage positively in peer and formal teaching observations
- Undertake additional duties consistent with the role, as required
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree (or NVQ Level 4 equivalent) or relevant professional experience
- Near native proficiency in English (IELTS 9.0 or equivalent)
- DELTA or Trinity Diploma in TESOL/TEFL (or equivalent) preferred
- Candidates with CELTA (or equivalent) must demonstrate substantial EAP/ESP experience
- Significant and recent experience teaching EAP/ESP/EFL in a higher education context
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage varied workloads
- Experience of teaching using interactive digital classroom tools and online platforms.
- Ability to respond effectively to daily teaching and administrative demands
- Experience working collaboratively within a teaching team
- Strong IT skills, particularly in MS Office, Teams, and email systems
- Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development
Desirable Criteria
- Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related discipline
- Experience teaching on Foundation Year or similar preparatory programmes
- Experience working in Transnational Education (TNE) settings
- Familiarity with UK higher education academic standards
- Experience teaching students with IELTS 6.5 and above
