Optical Transmission Engineer (WDM/OTN)

Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, implement, commission, and perform acceptance testing of WDM/OTN equipment, ensuring all activities comply with design specifications and quality standards.
• Provide technical support for optical transmission networks, diagnose and resolve complex fiber link issues, optical performance degradation, and equipment faults to minimize service disruption.
• Participate in network planning and design, including preparation of Low-Level Design (LLD) documents, capacity planning, and development of optimization solutions to improve network efficiency, stability, and scalability.
• Perform operation and maintenance (O&M) activities on live networks, including routine maintenance, software upgrades, parameter adjustments, and equipment health checks.
• Prepare technical documentation such as Methods of Procedure (MoP), test reports, incident reports, and other project-related documents.
• Work closely with customers, project managers, and global technical support teams, ensuring clear technical communication and effective knowledge transfer when required.

Technical Knowledge:
• Strong understanding of fiber optic communication principles, WDM/DWDM technologies, and SDH/SONET systems.
• Familiarity with OTN hierarchy such as OTU/ODU, FEC (Forward Error Correction), and ASON/GMPLS principles is a strong advantage.
• Hands-on experience with Huawei transmission products such as OSN 9800, OSN 8800, and OSN 6800 series, as well as U2000/NCE management systems, is highly desirable.
• Practical knowledge of optical layer testing tools such as OTDR, OSA, and optical power meters.
• Knowledge of relevant industry certifications such as HCIP-Transmission, CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent is preferred.

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites or international locations when required.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or above in Telecommunications, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in the planning, implementation, support, or maintenance of optical transmission networks (WDM/OTN).
