Head of Underwriting (SME)

We are a startup developing in the UAE, launching a digital SME lending platform. Core processes are being established, and we are now looking for a strong credit leader who can structure, enhance, and scale the SME credit function.

This role requires a hands-on professional with leadership experience in SME credit risk and proven expertise in financial analysis and deal structuring.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and further develop the SME credit risk function

• Perform and oversee full-cycle SME underwriting:

  • in-depth financial analysis

  • operating performance review

  • cash-flow modelling and scenario analysis

  • bank statement analysis

  • deal structuring and Credit Committee presentation

• Develop and refine credit policies, underwriting standards, limits and risk appetite

• Build portfolio monitoring framework (vintages, roll rates, concentrations, watchlists)

• Contribute to automation, decision rules and scoring framework

• Collaborate with Compliance (ADGM/FSRA, SAMA), Product and Operations

Candidate profile:

• 5+ years in SME/commercial credit risk (bank, fintech, microfinance)

• Leadership or functional head experience

• Strong background in SME financial modelling and structured credit analysis

• Experience drafting procedures and internal credit regulations

• Proven exposure to microfinance or digital SME lending

• English B2 minimum (working proficiency), fluent Russian

• Advanced Excel; SQL/Python is an advantage

Nice to have:

• Knowledge of UAE/KSA markets

• Experience with external credit bureaus and alternative data

• Exposure to Sharia-compliant products

The position involves relocation to the UAE, with assistance provided.
