Job Description: Science Teacher – IGCSE & A Level

The International School is seeking a highly qualified, passionate, and dedicated Science Teacher to join our academic faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Science at IGCSE and A Level, delivering high-quality instruction within the framework of the British Curriculum (Pearson Edexcel) and preparing students for internationally recognised external examinations.

The successful candidate will foster a rigorous, engaging, and student-centred learning environment that develops students’ scientific knowledge, critical thinking, analytical skills, and ability to apply scientific concepts to real-world contexts.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality Science lessons in accordance with the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE and A Level specifications, schemes of work, and examination requirements.
• Develop comprehensive and appropriately differentiated lesson plans that address the diverse academic abilities, learning needs, and aspirations of students.
• Deliver engaging and academically rigorous instruction that develops students’ conceptual understanding, scientific reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Prepare students effectively for IGCSE and A Level examinations, including familiarity with examination specifications, assessment objectives, question formats, mark schemes, and examination techniques.
• Design and conduct practical laboratory activities in accordance with curriculum requirements, ensuring that students develop strong experimental, investigative, and data-analysis skills.
• Promote scientific inquiry through experiments, investigations, problem-solving activities, case studies, discussions, and real-world applications of scientific concepts.
• Implement a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and inform subsequent instruction.
• Provide timely, constructive, and subject-specific feedback to support students' academic development and examination preparation.
• Monitor individual student progress and implement appropriate intervention, support, and extension strategies where necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of student attainment, assessment results, academic progress, and examination performance.
• Use assessment data to evaluate teaching effectiveness and implement targeted strategies to improve student outcomes.
• Develop students' ability to interpret scientific data, evaluate evidence, formulate hypotheses, analyse experimental results, and communicate scientific findings effectively.
• Integrate appropriate digital technologies, simulations, scientific resources, and multimedia tools to enhance teaching and learning.
• Encourage students to participate in Science-related competitions, Olympiads, research projects, STEM activities, and academic enrichment programmes where appropriate.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects, cross-curricular initiatives, and academic enrichment activities.
• Maintain effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and school leadership regarding academic progress, achievements, and areas requiring further development.
• Contribute to departmental planning, curriculum development, moderation, standardisation, and quality assurance processes.
• Maintain a safe, well-organised, and purposeful laboratory and classroom environment and comply fully with all health and safety, safeguarding, and child protection requirements.
• Participate in departmental meetings, professional development programmes, staff meetings, school events, and other activities as required.
• Undertake other academic and administrative responsibilities reasonably assigned by the Head of Science Department, Academic Coordinator, or School Administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Science Education, or a closely related discipline.
• Recognised teaching qualification or certification appropriate for teaching Science at secondary level.
• Demonstrated experience teaching IGCSE and/or A Level Science within a British or international curriculum.
• Strong knowledge of the Pearson Edexcel IGCSE and A Level curriculum, assessment objectives, examination requirements, and assessment practices.
• Strong subject knowledge and the ability to deliver academically rigorous instruction appropriate to IGCSE and A Level students.
• Practical laboratory experience and a strong understanding of laboratory safety procedures.
• Experience preparing students for external examinations and supporting students in achieving strong academic outcomes.
• Excellent classroom management, communication, interpersonal, organisational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and effectively support students with diverse learning needs and academic abilities.
• Commitment to continuous professional development, reflective teaching practice, and ongoing professional learning.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of an international academic team.
