Position Overview: We are looking to appoint two lecturers with the ability to deliver excellent teaching and learning on our BEng Civil Engineering and BEng Civil Engineering with Foundation Year degree programmes. Successful candidates will be expected to meet the following essential criteria and as many of the desirable criteria as possible.
Essential Criteria
- Possess a PhD in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Language proficiency (level C2) in English.
- Flexibility and willingness to teach a broad selection of topics across civil engineering including: mathematics, computing, structural analysis and structural design.
- Candidates should have relevant professional qualification(s) e.g. C. Eng (Chartered Engineer) or international equivalent, or be working towards them, with an expectation of gaining an appropriate professional qualification within the 3 year probationary period of the appointment.
- Teaching experience at undergraduate/postgraduate level.
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge and current advancements within academic subject area.
- Be capable of teaching practical skills in the field (surveying) and leading/supporting student site visits.
- Commitment to delivering an excellent student experience that aligns with Cardiff University’s strategy and values.
- Ability to design and deliver teaching programmes for courses in CU Kazakhstan and contribute to module development as part of a module team that may be shared between Cardiff and Astana.
Desirable Criteria
- Evidence of collaborations with industry.
- Proven ability to work without close supervision.
- Proven ability to adapt to the changing requirements of the Higher Education community.
- Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance teaching activities.
- Capability to carry out other forms of scholarship including work associated with examinations (setting and marking paper and providing constructive feedback to students), administration, participation in academic committees.
Lecturers will engage with and inspire students, providing academic support and mentorship throughout the student journey.
The Year 1 comprises the following modules:
- Engineering Maths and Computation, Fundamentals of Civil Engineering, Applied Design and Practice
With the following modules in Year 2:
- Engineering Analysis, Building Modelling, Hydraulics and Soil Mechanics, Structural Analysis & Design Theory, Sustainable Civil Engineering Design & Practice, Environmental Engineering
