School Nurse / Health & Wellness Coordinator
Reports To: Vice Principal / Principal
Position Summary
The School Nurse is responsible for promoting and maintaining the health, safety, hygiene, and well-being of all students and staff. The nurse provides first aid and medical care, oversees school health programs, coordinates health screenings, monitors hygiene standards, supervises food safety practices, and serves as the school's primary liaison with local health authorities and SES (Sanitary-Epidemiological Service).
The School Nurse plays a key role in ensuring a healthy school environment and supporting compliance with national health regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Student Health Services
- Provide first aid and basic medical care to students and staff.
- Assess and manage illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies.
- Maintain confidential student medical records.
- Monitor students with chronic medical conditions and allergies.
- Administer medications in accordance with school policies.
Health Screenings & Medical Examinations
- Organize and coordinate school-wide health check-ups at least twice per academic year.
- Maintain health records and vaccination information.
- Follow up with parents regarding medical concerns identified during screenings.
- Coordinate with external healthcare providers when necessary.
Hygiene & Sanitation Monitoring
- Conduct regular inspections of student hygiene and general cleanliness.
- Perform random checks of classrooms, restrooms, changing rooms, and common areas.
- Promote good personal hygiene practices among students.
- Provide hygiene awareness sessions and campaigns.
Canteen & Food Safety Oversight
- Monitor school canteen hygiene and food safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with food handling and storage regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of kitchen facilities and food preparation areas.
- Coordinate with canteen management regarding health and safety requirements.
- Report concerns and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
SES & Regulatory Compliance
- Serve as the school's primary liaison with SES and other health authorities.
- Prepare documentation required for inspections and audits.
- Ensure school compliance with local health regulations.
- Coordinate responses to public health concerns and communicable diseases.
Health Education
- Deliver health awareness sessions for students.
- Promote healthy lifestyles, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and personal hygiene.
- Support school wellness initiatives and health campaigns.
Emergency Preparedness
- Maintain first aid supplies and medical equipment.
- Assist in developing emergency response procedures.
- Participate in emergency drills and risk assessments.
- Coordinate responses to infectious disease outbreaks when required.
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience.
- Knowledge of first aid, emergency response, and infection control.
- Good communication skills in English or Russian/Uzbek.
Preferred
- Previous experience in a school setting.
- Experience working with children and adolescents.
- Knowledge of SES requirements and health regulations in Uzbekistan.
- Training in safeguarding and child protection.
Working Hours
- Monday–Friday.
- Must arrive before student arrival time each morning.
- Typical hours: 7:15 AM – 4:30 PM (or as determined by school leadership).
- May be required to attend school events, health screenings, and emergency situations outside regular hours.
Additional Duties at AIST
- Conduct monthly hygiene inspections and reports.
- Monitor classroom cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Support safeguarding and student welfare initiatives.
- Participate in Health & Safety Committee meetings.
- Prepare annual health and wellness reports for school leadership.
- Maintain emergency medical kits throughout the campus.
