Tech Lead/Solution Architector (read carefully)

MDiet is a health-tech startup for the US market. Our AI platform reduces patient hospital readmissions. With the successful growth of the company, there is an opportunity for relocation/immigration to the US.

About the Role

We are looking for a strong, hands-on engineer for a Tech Lead position—one of our first backend engineers who will build our production platform from scratch.

What You Will Do

• Design and develop services, APIs, and integrations (FHIR / HL7) from scratch.

• Make key architectural decisions.

• Lay the foundation for security and compliance (HIPAA / SOC 2).

• Establish engineering practices from day one: code reviews, quality standards, and processes.

• Provide technical leadership for the backend division, help the team grow, and integrate AI components (a dedicated AI Lead is responsible for the AI models themselves).

Tech Stack

• Core: Java 21 + Spring Boot (main focus); additionally Python + FastAPI.

• Data: PostgreSQL, Redis (vector DBs are a plus).

• Architecture: Event-driven (Kafka / RabbitMQ).

• Cloud & DevOps: AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitLab CI/CD, monitoring (Prometheus / Grafana).

• Security & API: OAuth2 / OIDC, REST / gRPC, API Gateway, HIPAA / SOC 2.

Requirements

Must-have:

• Strong experience in system design and architecture—the ability to design and build complex systems from scratch (this is a key priority).

• Readiness to code actively while immediately establishing processes and standards.

• English (at least B2)—for documentation and verbal communication with US partners.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with vector databases.

• Integration of AI services / LLMs (RAG, embeddings, tool calling).

• Experience with mentorship or small-scale leadership.

• Basic understanding of frontend development (how the frontend interacts with APIs).
