About the Role:

Learning Support Teachers at Haileybury Almaty are expected to ensure high quality education for all pupils in their care and to improve the quality of learning and standards of achievement. They should conduct themselves in an appropriate professional manner at all times to support and foster the aims of the school.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning:

  1. The Learning Support Teacher will assist Haileybury Almaty to provide inclusive and appropriate support for pupils who have learning difficulties in all Key Stages across Junior and Senior School.

  2. Provide a complementary service to teachers and other staff in order to address the needs of pupils who require support in overcoming barriers to learning in order to achieve their full potential. These barriers could be emotional, social, academic or behavioural.

  3. Work with a range of pupils, but give priority to those who need the most help, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages, including challenging behaviour.

  4. Listen to and help pupils resolve a range of issues that are creating barriers to learning.

  5. Work with pupils on a one-to-one basis or in small or large groups, acting as a listener; facilitator for learning; encourager and motivator.

  6. Help pupils who are underperforming in their subjects and look at why they are underperforming and what can be done to help their situation.

  7. Implement strategies and support pupils in self-esteem and confidence-building activities.

  8. Provide advice and support to staff to help pupils be more successful in the school environment.

  9. Collaborate with Phase leaders and staff to ensure that pupils with learning difficulties receive the most appropriate support and resources.

  10. Facilitate opportunities for social skills development through friendship clubs, during break and playtime or through small group play therapy sessions.

  11. Administer sensory diet sessions for those in need of sensory integration.

  12. Plan and teach a range of pull-out interventions for students with Specific Learning Differences in areas such as literacy, numeracy, social skills and sensory regulation

Monitoring, Recording and Reporting:

  1. Liaise with school staff to identify pupils who would benefit from learning support.

  2. Draw up agreed upon action plans, IEP’s and BIP’s collaborating with pupils, parents and teachers, outlining the aims of learning support, classroom and home strategies.

  3. Will have a caseload of referrals to manage for which they are responsible for in terms of monitoring, recording and reporting.

  4. Will use their professional judgement in relation to the prioritisation of tasks.

  5. Have high levels of communication and listening skills to relate to students, Head of Learning Support and fellow professionals.

  6. Build and maintain co-operative relationships with parents to steadily communicate about their child’s progress, drawing attention to special skills and talents, as well as problems or difficulties

  7. Be familiar with the referral process for Learning Support at Haileybury Almaty for the identification and assessment of learning difficulties.

  8. Refer pupils to Head of Learning Support for further assessment and referral to other appropriate professionals, e.g. educational psychologists and therapists.

Qualifications:

Essential

● Minimum 3 years’ experience in teaching any subject and Learning Support area;

● Successful experience in working with pupils (4-16 years old) in the group you are teaching (Senior School and Junior School).

● Demonstrated experience in inspiring pupils in a stimulating learning environment.

● Demonstrated experience of using ICT and AI to promote learning.

● Ability to analyse student data to support student achievement.

● Demonstrated experience in raising achievement and setting challenging targets.

● Strong commitment to supporting all aspects of our programme, especially through participating actively in the extra-curricular activities and contributing to the life of the school community.

● Graduate teaching qualification.

● Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject area.

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching/working with pupils who have learning difficulties.
  • Experience delivering outstanding academic results at IGCSE and A Level.
  • Previous experience of working at a British international school and familiarity with the British education system.
  • Master's Degree is an advantage-a postgraduate qualification in SEND, SpLD, Inclusion, Educational Psychology, or a related field.

Other Professional Requirements:

  1. Contribute to staff development on the most appropriate strategies, approaches and resources for pupils with learning difficulties.

  2. Establish effective working relationships with professional colleagues.

  3. Set a good example to students through presentation, personal and professional conduct.

  4. Keep up-to-date with current educational developments and practice.

  5. Participate in meetings at school, which relate to the curriculum for the school or the administration of the school.

  6. Be familiar with health and safety issues and positive behaviour management plan.

  7. Understand the importance of confidentiality and be aware of child protection and safety procedures.

  8. Have a working knowledge of school policies and procedures.

  9. Undertake other duties as the Head of Learning Support or Senior Leadership Team may reasonably direct.

  10. To continue to grow skills and knowledge through CPD for the most current and effective strategies to move students forward.
