Electrical Equipment Testing Engineer

Key Role:

As an Electrical Equipment Testing Engineer (Single Equipment Pre-Commissioning), you will be responsible for the planning, execution, and supervision of electrical pre-commissioning and functional testing activities of MV/LV electrical equipment. You will ensure all systems and components are tested and validated to meet project specifications and safety standards before being energized and handed over for commissioning. This role will act as a technical bridge between the commissioning team, construction contractors, and the client to ensure compliance with design documents and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare pre-commissioning plans and detailed test procedures for electrical systems and equipment (transformers, switchgear, motors, VSDs, UPS, lighting, grounding, etc.).

Perform and supervise single equipment testing, including insulation resistance, winding resistance, ratio tests, functional checks, etc.

Verify installation quality and readiness for testing by conducting inspections and reviewing documentation.

Ensure all tests are conducted in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.

Work closely with construction, commissioning, and QA/QC teams to ensure accurate test scheduling and execution.

Prepare and maintain detailed test reports and records for quality assurance and handover.

Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system or equipment issues identified during testing.

Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) when required.

Ensure proper use and maintenance of testing instruments and equipment.

Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and technicians on site.

Ensure compliance with all HSE policies during testing activities.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

B.Sc/B.Eng./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).

5–10 years of relevant experience in electrical testing and pre-commissioning.

Hands-on experience with testing of MV/LV systems and electrical components in power plants, substations, or large industrial projects.

Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, and local electrical standards and testing procedures.

Professional certification or registration with relevant local authority (preferred).

Others:

Driver’s license (mandatory).

Own computer/laptop and mobile phone (mandatory).

Key Competencies and Generic Skills:

Proficient in electrical testing tools and instruments such as insulation testers, primary/secondary injection kits, multimeters, etc.

Able to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and manuals.

Knowledge of electrical safety protocols and lockout-tagout (LOTO) procedures.

Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Excellent documentation and reporting skills.

Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.

Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Fluent in English (mandatory).
