Community Projects Officer
Bishkek International School is a non-profit community school providing excellent international education in a safe, supportive and happy environment. The school opened in September 2011 and now has over 450 students from age 2 to 18. Fifty percent of our students are foreign citizens, children of employees of embassies, international organizations and international business or NGOs. Fifty percent of students are Kyrgyz citizens. The school welcomes all students regardless of ability, gender, ethnicity, language, or religious belief and everyone is encouraged to take part in all school activities. BIS is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Commission on International Education. As an IB World School we offer the IB Diploma Programme, IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). We are also a Cambridge International School, with the Cambridge IGCSE programme in Grade 9-10.
Job Purpose
The Community Projects Officer is responsible for developing and managing strategic partnerships and impactful projects that connect the school with local NGOs, educational institutions, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the wider community. The role promotes the school’s commitment to education, sustainability, and civic engagement by coordinating teacher development initiatives, student-led community projects, and collaborative outreach activities. This position plays a key part in enhancing the school's reputation as a contributor to the positive development of the Kyrgyz Republic.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Partnership Development
1. Build and sustain strong working relationships with NGOs, community organizations, and government bodies, especially in the fields of education and the environment.
2. Liaise with the Ministry of Education and Science, and other relevant authorities, to align projects with national priorities and ensure mutual benefit.
3. Represent the school at public forums, working groups, and professional networks related to education and development.
4. Seek opportunities to involve parents, business and other organization leaders into the school, to enhance and enrich student experience in the school and its value to the wider community.
Teacher Training & Capacity Building in the Kyrgyz Republic
1. Develop and coordinate internship opportunities for local teachers at the school to enhance their skills and exposure to international best practices.
2. Design and facilitate teacher training programs for local schools, drawing on the school’s expertise and resources.
3. Organize professional learning events, workshops, and mentorship programs in collaboration with school staff and external partners.
Student Engagement in Community Projects
1. Inspire and mobilise BIS students, parents, and staff to engage with the school mission statement, ‘a school which contributes positively to the development of the Kyrgyz Republic’.
2. Design and manage student-led service and outreach initiatives that address local needs in education, sustainability, and social impact.
3. Support students to plan, implement, and reflect on community projects with measurable outcomes and visible impact.
4. Ensure student involvement aligns with the school's curriculum and values.
5. Support the student led ‘Act for Community’ organisation in achieving and maintaining legal status and facilitate development of the institution while remaining a student led organisation.
Communications and School Profile
1. Promote community projects and partnerships through regular communications, including articles, reports, social media, and events.
2. Highlight the school's contribution to national development through success stories, media engagement, and public reporting.
3. Investigate, analyse, and promote publicly the cost and impact of the BIS scholarship program (first scholarship in 2011, multiple scholarships in High School from summer 2016).
4. Maintain documentation and impact assessments of all projects to support transparency and continual improvement.
General
1. Act in accordance with the budgets, policies, procedures, directions and decisions of the school management
2. Act as ambassador for the school and act in a manner that upholds the values and ethos of the school at all times
3. Maintain high quality standards in all areas of the school
4. Any other activities as agreed with management to contribute to overall development of the school.

REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education, international development, environmental studies, or related field.
• Proven experience in project management, community engagement, or NGO/government liaison work.
• Knowledge of the education landscape and civil society in Kyrgyzstan.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent in English; fluency in Russian and/or Kyrgyz is highly desirable.
